Welcoming Sophie Morris to the Endometriosis New Zealand Board

Endometriosis New Zealand is delighted to welcome Sophie Morris as the newest member of our Board. Sophie brings a powerful blend of lived experience, professional leadership, and public advocacy — qualities that align strongly with our mission to improve outcomes for the more than 120,000 people in Aotearoa living with endometriosis.

Sophie’s connection to this kaupapa is deeply personal. Having undergone two laparoscopic surgeries this year for stage 3 endometriosis, she understands firsthand the challenges so many face: delayed diagnosis, limited support, and the emotional and physical toll of navigating a complex health system. It is this lived experience that drives her commitment to ensuring others are met with greater understanding, timely care, and compassionate pathways forward.

Professionally, Sophie brings extensive leadership experience from her roles at the Whau Mental Health Research Foundation and New Zealand Opera, where she worked across marketing, communications, and development. She has worked closely with Boards, contributed to strategic planning, and helped shape initiatives that deliver meaningful, measurable impact. Her background has equipped her with a strong understanding of effective governance, strategic decision-making, and the value of clear, thoughtful direction in achieving outcomes that truly matter.

Sophie is also a familiar public voice. As a singer, radio announcer, and MC, she has built a career on connecting with people — communicating with clarity, empathy, and purpose. She brings this same energy to her advocacy for endometriosis awareness and improved care. Her ability to engage audiences, inspire conversation, and amplify key messages will be an asset to our organisation and the wider community we serve.

For Sophie, joining the Board represents a meaningful opportunity to transform personal experience into action. She credits Endometriosis New Zealand with providing her with critical information, support, and community during her own journey — and now steps into this role ready to give back. She is eager to contribute to governance decisions, and bring her voice, passion, and drive to a space where it can make a genuine difference.

We’re proud to welcome Sophie to the Endometriosis New Zealand whānau. Her dedication, insight, and lived experience will strengthen our work as we continue advocating for earlier diagnosis, better care pathways, and improved quality of life for all those affected by endometriosis in Aotearoa.
