Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain is to be given national attention in New Zealand through the development of a new TASK FORCE lead by the Ministry of Health and other strategic stakeholders.

The Group is known as the ‘TASK FORCE to improve the quality of diagnosis and management of endometriosis and pelvic pain.’

The TASK FORCE was established to address:

the high incidence of endometriosis and pelvic pain and the impact on quality of life, productivity and fertility
the burden of endometriosis and pelvic pain physically, clinically, socially, psychologically and economically

Aims:

  • reduce the burden of disease
  • improve quality of life
  • early recognition of disease
  • reduce unnecessary surgical intervention
  • improve equity of access and reduce variability → major system improvement

The TASK FORCE will comprise representatives from:
Ministry of Health (MOH); Endometriosis New Zealand (ENZ); Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists NZ (RANZCOG); Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP); New Zealand Pain Society (NZPS); Pharmaceutical Management Agency (PHARMAC); and two patient advocates. Working groups (including Clinical Directors of DHBs and researchers and others) will be appointed to advise on specific areas.
